When Your Dream Plan Fails

Path

On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome Ifeoma Samuel to God-sized Dreams. She is sharing a little about how we can handle it when our dream plans change.

Thanks for being here today, Ifeoma!

One of the plans on my year’s goals was to finish my Bible in one year. Well that didn’t work out as planned.  Having fallen behind on several chapters, I felt I had failed myself and my “Big Plan”.

Inside, I was ducking my head in disappointment.

Not until the Holy Spirit whispered “Start where you are now”, I was fixated on playing catch up on missed chapters.

It is the catch up that overwhelmed me.

But now He says “Start where you are now”.

An invitation to give myself grace, my heart was calmed.

Granted!

How many times do you look at your dream-plan and feel like you have failed it?

How many times to you try to play catch up?

Like you I failed to realize, that it is not me who has failed my plan, my plan has failed!

Yes the plan, not you!

What do you do?

Give yourself the permission to re-work your dream-plans. (<====Click to Tweet)

Yes friend!

You have the ability to re-map your plans but it isn’t within you to bring them to pass.

“There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”

Proverbs 19:21

Unless you know which road God is taking you through, you have no fool-proof plan.

Truthfully, we don’t know the way or have we seen it but we trust him to lead us. We know He will carry us safely to the place we are meant to be.

There will be detours, bends, bumps, stop-signs and of course, traffic lights along our paths. We can only depend on Him to lead us there safely.

While we are at it, dreaming, keeping dream-plans and everything in between, there are three things we must remember:

1)  1.  It is Him that works in us and not we who dictate our own pace.

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Philippians 2:13

2) 2.   It is God’s Will that matters and not ours. It is God who has the final say in all our dreams and plans.

“Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Hebrews 13:21

3)  3.  It is God’s work which He has created us to do before now.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

Be encouraged friends, in this dreaming journey hold fast to God and He will lead the way! By His Great Grace.

Hey Friend … when our dreams fail, He is the One who gives us new dreams, hopes, plans! I love that He sees the end from the beginning, and knows us well enough to give us the right direction for the steps ahead.

Thank you for your wise words!

I am encouraged by the words that we need to trust the Lord as He has the final say in all our dreams and plans. I felt a dream I had failed when I realized it was too big for me, but now I see I need to rely on Him to re-work this dream to a reasonable size that will not overwhelm me. God is working to give me faith to walk in His way and not rely on my human will.

Hello Friend, we become overwhelmed when we rely on our own abilities. I have been there too!

Your faith in Him to bring you through His way is enough.
I believe God’s plan for your life will be fulfilled in Jesus name.

Thank you for sharing your heart here.
      God Bless

This is so inspirational, Ifeoma! Reminding us of how powerful and in control our God is, is just what I love to read about! Thanks also for the reminder that we just need to do what is before us this day and not worry about the need to do things perfectly or “catch up” on what we first endeavored to do. Great thoughts, my friend!

Hi Beth, thank you for joining the conversation.
“Catch-up” can become a burden especially if we can move on.

      Thank you Beth.

Great thoughts, Ifeoma. 🙂 Love how He’s always at work, connecting His plans to our hearts, giving us His vision. And when we get a little lost, He’s there to guide us back to His path, and let us begin anew “where we are now.” He’s such a faithful God. Thanks for sharing, Ifeoma. (((Hug)))

Oh, my! Did God know I needed this or what, Ifeoma? My husband and I are wondering about some changes for us as we grow older and are finding that our home is more work than we are sometimes able. Costs are increasing and we wonder. Than these words of yours — “Unless you know which road God is taking you through, you have no fool-proof plan.” — YES…YES!!! It is not our plan but His that we want to follow. Thank you for this today.

Hello Linda, firstly thank you for hopping over to read.

Following through unmarked paths isn’t easy, friend. We both can agree upon this.

But Trusting God who understands the way and knows the place is the best move we can make.

I pray that your family enjoys divine intervention and help as you go through these times in Jesus name.

Loads of Blessings to you Linda.

I’m so thankful we can always pick up where we left off. Sometimes we are rerouted down a different path for whatever reason and then end up back where we left off. Thank you for sharing this with Thankful Thursdays, Ifeoma.

Hi Ifeoma! This post was really written for me. I have been stressing about deadlines and it seems like the ‘hurried-er I go the behind-er I get’. But it all is really in God’s hands isn’t it. He knows me, and knows what I can do, and how fast I can do it.
Thanks for the deep, cleansing breath!

So good, Ifeoma! How often we forget to give ourselves grace and instead condemn ourselves! Beautifully put, sister. Thank you for the reminder today to take that next step and start where we are.

I have read my Bible through in one year a couple of times, but I found it almost stressful. Back to my two chapters a day, and the devotionals I enjoy – and reading these lovely posts. I have been enjoying some wonderful books on my Amazon application Kindle. They are about ministers who have experienced amazing encounters with God and His Holy Spirit and went on to minister in praying for the sick and experiencing miracles in their meetings. I believe some of their sharing has rubbed off on me just by follow up on the scriptures they are using. Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.
