The take-off began in the haze that had settled over Houston. The higher we climbed the cloudier it got.
It was bumpy at the onset, so my eyes were closed for a few minutes, and as I opened them we were just rising above the cloud line. Land was visible below in small spaces between the fluffy white clouds. I had a strong sense of the emerging that had just occurred. The layer that just minutes before been hazy and difficult to see through, was now clear and beautiful.
I started taking pictures with my phone, it may or may not have been “legal” at that point, but I couldn’t stop taking in Gods beauty.
The tops of the clouds looked like cotton balls that had been stretched apart for the beard of a Kindergarten Santa project. Soft and inviting, comfortable even!
As the plane rose, the skyline changed once again. I am not a meteorologist (BIG shocker I know!!) so I don’t know the technical term, but the next layer of clouds was flat, like fog almost. But off in the distance were spots where clouds were shooting up into the sky above in billowy formations.
I wondered if storms were brewing below them.
Have you ever been in a place that right where you are is flat and calm but you were able to see the storms on the horizon? You are sure something is happening just below the surface but you aren’t positive what it is. Will it bring a difficulty? A time of testing? Maybe an opportunity to trust in God?
When we are walking in God’s plan for our lives we go through different “layers” in our journey don’t we? (<====Click to Tweet)
There are times that the fog is thick and we can’t clearly see what His plan is. There are moments of clarity when the skies open up and we are confident in where He has called us. And of course, whether we like it or not, we will all face seasons where the storms are close by, or even right over us.
It can all feel a little uncertain can’t it?
We don’t enjoy the turbulence that life can bring. We want the pretty views, the calm waters.
But it is in the valleys that I find I often seek His face on a deeper and more intimate level. I understand how powerless I am in this life and I run to the shelter that can be found in a loving and safe God.
I don’t know where you find yourself today. Whether it is the beauty of the calm or in the middle of a frightening storm…
Please remember that He is there in ALL of it.
The very God that created the heavens and the earth is the God that is right beside you in each and every “layer” of life that He is leading you through. Seek His face, the beauty of His creation, in the midst of it all. And trust that each piece of your walk will lead you to a deeper faith and trust in Him.
Because I have a feeling that the view at the end of the journey is going to be amazing.
