On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome our friend Sandra J to God-sized Dreams. She is sharing how allowing God into even the smallest areas of her life produced big rewards! Thanks for being here today, Sandra!
Several years ago, one of my daughters was experiencing a “lull” – an in-between time. She’d taken a much-needed break from the four-year college routine and was working full-time. For her, it was a good choice – she was experiencing work life – and taking time to re-motivate for school.
This “lull” in her life was tough for me, the mama-with-a-four-year plan, the mama-with-the-must-have-four-year-degree mindset. It was not a peaceful place for me.
I couldn’t help but notice no one else’s kids were taking a college break. No one else’s kids were interrupting their four-year degree plans. No one else’s kids required a “lull”.
Comparison was a not so nice companion to me during this time – she was the ‘mean-girl’ in my mind – killing me with her opinions of what needed to happen and what bad thing could occur.
One day, while firing up my computer for a friendly romp through the internet – I stopped. I did something I rarely do when waiting for my computer to turn on – I prayed.
I asked the Lord to “Direct my clicks”.
It sounds rather silly, saying it out loud. But, it’s what I did this one day.
This day, I was looking online for the perfect gift for my daughter-in-the-lull. I was thinking – dance class. My dance loving, former cheerleading daughter loved to move – it was the perfect idea.
Doing my usual, totally thorough search, I went to our local community college site’s dance section. The dance classes were notably above the “Event Planning” courses.
What!? I never knew.
I never knew that “Event Planning” courses even existed. This was the career my in-the-lull daughter had wanted to pursue – particularly, wedding planning. At the four-year college she had been attending, there was no such degree – so she was advised to make up her own degree, with an emphasis on Business Planning. Not quite the fit for her.
This was GOLD!
My daughter agreed – she began the next quarter with all Event Planning classes – finally, she could pursue her interests wholeheartedly. These courses led to a move to another nearby college which offered a Hotel Management career path, with an emphasis on event planning. She is currently in her final year of coursework, pursuing her dream career, and will receive the mama-coveted, four-year degree at the end of the program.
I believe the Lord directed my clicks.
I have a new approach to my online time…a “Pray-then-Click” mantra.
My new routine – inviting God into my daily clicks!
How are you inviting God into even the smallest parts of your life?
