Growing up, one of the cherished items every girl coveted in high school was their boyfriend’s letterman jacket or sports jersey. The moment he let you wear it, you were his #1 girl. It was a serious love affair if you wore his clothing with his surname. This displayed for all to see that you were spoken for, you were someone’s beloved.
Just like a boyfriend’s letterman jacket or sports jersey, God also sealed us with the Holy Spirit to show we are loved by Him. Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit is sent to us as mark of his love for us. It’s our letterman jacket or sports jersey from God.
Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit to show that we were marked by His love. (<==== Tweet this)
Paul says it best when writing to the Corinthians:
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 1:21 -22 NIV)
What a precious gift the Father and Son gave us in the Holy Spirit.
I used to ignore the Holy Spirit as if it were just a silent person in the Trinity. However, my reverence for the Holy Spirit has increased this past year. In reading the scriptures and studying about spiritual gifts, I realized I was limiting what the Holy Spirit can and will do in my life.
As my prayer life has increased, I have learned:
- it is the Holy Spirit who intervenes on my behalf quite often.
- It’s the Holy Spirit who gives me direct access to the thoughts of Jesus and God.
- It’s the Holy Spirit who shows me how to take the steps to live out this God-sized Dream.
- It’s the Holy Spirit who helps translate heavenly principles to honor God on earth.
- It’s the Holy Spirit who enables me to bear the fruits of the Spirit (love, peace, gentleness, patience, faithfulness, joy, self-control, goodness, and kindness Galations 5:22).
Grace becomes tangible because the Holy Spirit is active in our lives. (<====Tweet This) The Holy Spirit teaches us how to usher God’s presence into the atmosphere. And when I am lost for words in my grief or fear, it is the Holy Spirit who will pray on my behalf when my heart and mouth can’t utter a word.
One song that became very dear to me this past year is Holy Spirit by Jesus Culture. Choosing to welcome the Holy Spirit to become a part of my God-size Dream is life changing.
No matter where I am, singing Holy Spirit with all of my heart changes my atmosphere and day. It makes my heart smile from the inside out. In those moments, I smile big from ear to ear as I show off His Letterman Jacket to the world.
What song or scriptures draw the Holy Spirit closer you?
