On Tuesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome our sweet, dreaming sister, Katie Reid, to God-sized Dreams! She shares a beautiful reminder of the blessings and joys that can be found along the path to a dream.
I am a driver. I feel the thrill of the wind as I live with purpose and passion, heading full-speed towards a goal, towards a dream. I envision my destination and do everything I can to reach it in record time. The detour signs are a nuisance as I weave and bend, ever reaching for the finish line.
This intense focus, fixed in the direction of my dreams, can be a strength, but it can also be a major roadblock. Our dreams should include others and when we bulldoze those around us or ignore them – we are missing out.
When we miss the breathtaking scenery, because we are zooming past, we overlook key elements along the journey.
I recorded my debut album, Echoes of My Heart, in less than a year. Recording a CD had been a dream of mine for a long time, and I was thrilled when the time finally arrived to make it a reality. The physical album was produced in order to raise funds for our adoption. And now the digital version of Echoes of My Heart is on sale on iTunes and Amazon, and it is exhilarating. (A portion of the proceeds will be given to orphan/adoption care.)
I thought, with the digital release of the album, that many people would purchase it. But, when that did not happen, I was discouraged. My frequent companions, Doubt and Fear, threatened to take over the wheel…assuring my insecurities that the album is indeed lame and no one wants to purchase it anyway.
Then God began to show me that, while I am often so focused on the end result, I miss the celebration-worthy moments along the journey. (<==== Tweet this.)
Instead of moping around because my desired outcome did not happen (or has not happened yet), I should rejoice in the small mile-markers that are propelling me further down the road. The other day I changed lanes, out of the fast-lane and over to the shoulder, to pause and take in the scenic overlook – the fact that, “My album is for sale online!” Sure there is a long way to go, but this is a moment that deserves acknowledgment. As we stop and take in the beauty of the small steps along the way, we provide fuel and focus for the next leg of the journey.
“Every blessing You pour out, I’ll turn back to praise.” Every blessing, every gift, every step along the path is a moment worthy of worship, of thanksgiving to the One who knows what He is doing. He uses the road towards our dream to help steer us closer to His love. The destination is an added bonus, but the route is what He uses to grow us. As Holley Gerth wisely reminds us, “The pursuit of any God-sized dream is ultimately the pursuit of the One who placed it within you. It’s like a honing beacon for your heart.” (You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream, pg. 38).
We are probably all in different stages of our dreams. But let’s be kind to ourselves and demonstrate our gratefulness to God by celebrating the small steps along the way. These steps are designed to take us one step closer to Him and what He has laid out before us.
What can we celebrate with you today regarding your dream? Let’s cheer each other on and enjoy the journey- wherever it might lead. (<==== Tweet this.)
