Hello, sweet dreamer.
It’s your friend, Mel.
And I’m writing to you on one of those days. You know, those days. It’s the kind of day when I wish I could pour two mugs of coffee, add a little extra french vanilla creamer, and sit down for a heart-chat with you in a quiet corner at a cute little table.
Because…well, because we’ve all had those days, and sometimes I think we should talk about them more. Just so we can all be reminded that we’re not alone.
I’m imagining that, even as you read these words, you might be nodding your head. Saying, Yes. Or, maybe even, Days? How about weeks that stretch into months? (Trust me, I’m there with you.)
Because there are those days, no matter who you are or what you’re dreaming, when the dreams feel shrouded in a fog so thick that there’s nothing to be seen.
Maybe the door to a dream has been closed.
Maybe He’s changed your heart and your desires.
Maybe fear has crept in and camped out in a too-big space, crippling your ability to move forward.
Maybe you’re just struggling for breath, hoping to make it to the next moment.
Or, maybe you’re all of them rolled into one.
No matter where you are today, friend, know this. And I say it from a heart that is right there with you, one that is struggling to find her God-Sized dream, waiting for a glimpse of what her Father might want for even the next step.
He is always there with us. Always.
And He promises it…that wherever we go, He will never leave us. And that includes the moments when we just don’t know and can’t even step forward. (<==== Tweet this!)
Oh, how He loves us! With a love that is so complete and encompassing that on those scary days when the fear wins out, we can fall back into His strong arms, knowing that He’s waiting.
And we’re here for you, too…your tribe. Your fellow dreamers.
It’s so easy to celebrate dreaming when the days are happy, when it seems like things are going so well. We pour the coffee and do happy dances around the living room because the steps are becoming clearer and the dreams are starting to feel closer.
But if you’re there today…in the messy, confusing place of wondering.
Waiting.
And maybe fighting the fear that your dream is over…
Don’t give in…don’t let the fear win, don’t let the enemy even whisper those words, the ones that will crush your hope.
Because there is Hope…always Hope.
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

And even as my fingers grip my coffee mug this morning…and I wonder what He has for me, I know this…
Even if I don’t feel it, I know it.

Oh friend how I love this post….when the words don’t come easy at times and it feels like I am a failure – it is so nice knowing that this is a part of the process at times and God has a plan. Thank you so much for the inspired words Mel! I can relate to almost everything you said! I am tired, overwhelmed, exhausted, in over my head…..ugh. Because I am a student again, rather than being filled with kid’s activities, business meetings and the like, my life is currently filled with term papers, final exams and all of the other enticing things (yes, that was dripping with sarcasm) things being a student entails. I am also a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding next weekend and her wedding is right in the middle of finals. I haven’t had the chance to really give my dream the attention it needs because I have been so busy with school and with helping prepare for the wedding. In saying that though, it’s interesting because God seems to be working in somewhat tangible ways as well. Since I already have a bachelor’s degree, I’d like to forgo earning another one and hop straight into grad school. The thing is, it’s not that easy but He’s providing little glimmers here and there that honestly get a girl’s heart pumping when she thinks about them! I’m single and another dream of mine is to get married. He seems to be providing insights there too about what to do and what not to do when planning a wedding, which is rather interesting. Anyhow, thank you so much for the post! It was appreciated on a hectic Friday morning!

{Sigh} Friend, can I just say how timely this post is? Thank you so much for sharing these words! It truly is a blessing to know that I’m not alone. To read not only your post, but comments above reassuring that we’re all in this together. I’m feeling completely overwhelmed right now. Life is BLESSED no doubt. Our 8-5 jobs are thriving (a little on the stressful side, I won’t lie), our personal business is thriving (making it difficult to manage outside of our 8-5 jobs), and God just surprised us by opening the doors for us to buy a house-we move in next week. I’ve taken some time in the midst of this, to back off from my blog writing, because well, in all honesty, I just don’t have the time. 🙁 God seems to have closed the door to an avenue I thought was going to be something I could pursue as extra income with regards to my writing-that was disappointing & saddened me, yet relieved me because, again, I don’t have much time these days. My ultimate dream of being a mamma seems to be lost in all of this & my heart aches. We’re trying, but it’s just not happening & I don’t have time to think about it or worry about it, yet my heart aches. I know God’s timing is best & His plans for me are unfolding surprise after surprise… I’m just worn out, exhausted, tired, and drained. I feel like Aaron, who needed help holding the staff up, during the battle. This may not be a battle-with all the good happening in my life-but I need you (all) to support my arms during my current journey. Will you pray for me? For strength? For peace? For JOY amidst this chaos? I’m struggling to find JOY even though this is a BLESSED time. Thank you & appreciate you!! ♥

Oh, friend. My heart just bleeds for you. First of all, I’m praying…actually, I just did and will continue. I so understand the ups and downs…how wonderful the blessings are but how hard it can be to see such a deep dream just not happening. I’m there with you…my situation is a little different and I’m trying to find the courage to write about it, but I understand the pain. I echo Mandy…prayers (lots of them!) for strength, peace, and joy in the midst of the blessings and the struggles. And if you ever need anything, feel free to message me. This post hit the nail on the head for me and brought tears of resonating so deeply with me. I’m in the scariest and most feeling-alone place of my life and yet I’m trying to hang on to the fact that I am really never alone.
I’m at a crossroads in a major relationship, yielding and attempting to discern Gods guidance and direction He is moving it. My dreams feel shattered and yet I know the One who is with me is able to work divine miracles. Yet, it’s been 20 years of the same prayer. It’s hard to not have a “hope deferred” which makes my heart sick. I so want a “desire fulfilled is a tree of life” breakthrough. I’m hoping and believing in my God-sized dream, yet grounded in reality that my heart is guarded for a reason and asking even in that He would breathe healing. Fear is my biggest obstacle, it’s what throws me off focus and derails my renewal of mind. So thank you for writing words that even though come from different circumstances, resonate deeply to me and so many others.

Oh…this post, your words…are an answer to prayer for me. Thank you! I am feeling fear-filled and lonely. I am focusing on those feelings and having a hard (almost impossible) time trading them for others. That inevitably leads to guilt…I am blessed with SO much and I feel immersed in loneliness…

Thanks Mel 🙂 It is good to be reminded over and over again. Especially when you can’t see any growth in the group you’re leading. Few times I was tempted to just stop to dream the dream. Mel, my prayer request is not for myself, but for some dear friends. Right now they are in a very dark place. He is lying in ICU and things don’t look good. In fact, there is little hope. He is showing signs of wanting to give up. She is just, as she put it, “in hedgehog mode”–curling up in the Lord’s lap and allowing Him to hold her. My heart is so heavy for both of them. Their dream of life without hospitals and tests and chemo and scary prognoses is so very distant…elusive…right now. Please pray that the Lord will give them hope…in Him, peace to be comforted, and trust in God’s Sovereign will. Thank you for your prayers, Mel, and for your encouraging words. May the Lord bless you this Easter Sunday!
