Dear God-sized Dreamer

March 31, 2014 By Mandy Mianecki 19 Comments

GSDletter

Dear God-sized dreamer,

Yes, you.

The one who wonders if you even have a God-sized dream…

The one whose dream has fizzled or died…

The one who can’t hear God speaking at all…

The one who is weary…

The one who is confused….

The one who is hurting…

The one who is lonely…

Lean in close now. I’ve got something important to tell you.

If I was right there with you, I’d hold your hand, look straight into your eyes, and remind you:

You are beautiful. You are chosen and precious.

And we need you!

You, who feel like you’re failing.

You, who feel like being overwhelmed disqualifies you.

You, who feel hopelessly inadequate.

The truth is that you’re more amazing than you know. More than you could ever imagine. Your dreaming is a revelation of the God-breathed brilliance in you–a brilliance only you can share with us. (<===Tweet that.)

You are unrepeatable.

And that is breath-taking. You are breath-taking.

Will you share God with us in a way that only you can? It’s scary, I know. Vulnerable. But it’s also exhilarating to experience and awe-inspiring to witness.

You being you. Letting Jesus flow all through you.

This space–right here–this budding community? It’s for you. It’s a safe place for you to be you.

Blossoming into the person God created you to be? That’s what this dreaming business is all about. You can do it! We know you can, and we are here to cheer you on.

When the going gets hard, when you want to throw in the towel–and you will–hop on over here. Be filled back up.

We’ll remind you Whose you are and that there is a place for you and your dream. (<===Tweet that.)

Press on, dreamer! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Love,
Mandy

How Do You Keep Up Your Energy for Your God-Sized Dream?

March 3, 2014 By Elise Daly Parker 18 Comments

Sometimes I lose interest in my God-sized dream. I lose my passion. I get tired of thinking about it, taking feeble steps that seem to lead me nowhere. I get worn down.

Maybe my God-sized dream isn’t worth all the effort?

Other times I lose sight of my God-sized dream. I can’t see it or feel it or touch it our taste it anymore. I can’t remember where it began…where I’m going with my dream…I can’t really picture it.

Have I lost my vision of my God-sized dream?

Discouragement can set in too…often from the outside. A friend who wants a status report seems disappointed when I update her on my progress (or lack of it). When I air my frustration with my God-sized dream, a family member comments,

“If your God-sized dream makes you so miserable, why bother?”

And sometimes, it’s just me. I’m distracted by the paid work I must do. I attempt to check something off my God-sized Dream To-Do list and I just can’t seem to get to it.

Why do I keep this dream on my plate when I have so many other things to do?

Then I have a light-bulb moment.

I haven’t been plugged in! I’ve been relying on my limited power when I have the God of the Universe available to me.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

My God-sized dream is really not about me and my vision…It’s about God and His plans, not just for me, but for me in the context of His bigger greater eternal plans. (Wow…that could overwhelm!)  (<==== Click to tweet)

For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.
Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV)

I’m looking to others for approval and cheerleading…But God is the ultimate lifter of my head, He is the sustainer of my dreams. (<==== Click to tweet)

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31 (NIV)

My God-sized dream requires patience and trust on my part…and not in my dream, but in the Dream Giver. His timing is perfect and He knows the beginning from the end. He has my best in mind and He alone is able to do more than I can ask or imagine. I just have to believe, in very small measure!

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

It’s frustrating to me that after all these years, I can still neglect my Power Source. God is ready, willing, and able to fulfill His perfect plans in and through me. And my part is pretty simple, but somehow not easy. I must come to Him, I must make myself available to Him, listen to Him, believe Him…I must “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to me as well.” (Matthew 6:33…my scripture for 2014).

How about you? Are you plugged in? How do you keep going with your God-sized dream?

When You Feel Alone At Sea

January 31, 2014 By Gindi Vincent 15 Comments

Sailboat

The Fed-Ex man arrived without pomp and circumstance.  No balloons.  Just a request to sign for the simple package.  It didn’t even register what it was until I cut open the envelope.  Nestled inside sat a book.  My book.  My very first book.  The one I started writing less than 12 months ago now sat in front of me with the bold font proclaiming “Learning to Lead.”

ltol

I nearly passed out with joy and excitement.  Yet the elation was shortly followed by a sense of sadness when the person I wanted to jump up and down with didn’t celebrate right along with me.

Daily living with a dream, regardless of what it is, can drain you.

You have to have a crew to support and encourage you.  Dreaming becomes even harder if the one person you want to stand beside you doesn’t “get it.”

You rush home or to an event, elated from a dream development, and your parent or child or spouse or best friend doesn’t understand why you’re excited.  You wake up feeling defeated and ready to stop dreaming, and the one person you need to encourage you to hang in there can’t comprehend why you’re depressed.

There could be a lot of things at work when you, and your dream, bump into this.

Sometimes, you have a relationship with someone who either doesn’t have a faith relationship or is in a very different spiritual place than you are.  It’s hard for someone to encourage your God-sized dream if they can’t understand the concept of God’s calling.

Other times, the one person from whom you most desperately crave dream-approval withholds it because they are upset that you are working on your dream and they aren’t.  Jon Acuff once posted that your family or closest friend may be ambivalent, or downright hostile, to your dream because they hear this when you talk about your dream successes or challenges: “You’re not working on your dream.  If you were smart or passionate about life you’d be working on a dream too.  You’re failing right now.”  That isn’t what you said, but that’s what they heard.

Regardless, what do you do when you feel alone?

This God-sized dream is burning a hole in your heart and you want to share the ups and downs of the journey with the person that you love most.  You hurt every time there’s a development and you cannot share it or the news is not well-received.

First, stop telling them about the developments or the disappointments.

This is SO hard because you want their validation.  You want their encouragement.  But you aren’t going to get that, at least not right now, so say a prayer and stop laying offerings down only to have them discarded.  One of my dearest friends urged me, “Give those glorious happenings you would normally share with the one dear to you  to the Lord – hold your hands up in prayer and let them be your sacrifices.”

Next, find a crew who understands your dream and God’s calling in your life.

Allow them to pray you through the storms and cheer when you sail into the next port.  It may not be the one person you most want to stand alongside you, but an Earthly support crew will help you continue on your dream journey.

Finally, remember your Captain.  He who began a good work in you WILL be faithful to complete it.  This is His calling for you.  (<====Click to tweet.)  The forks in the road or the storms while at sea are there for a purpose.  You have a Captain; you need only let Him steer.

2015 Is The Year Of New Beginnings

January 1, 2014 By Alecia Simersky Leave a Comment

Today is a new day...GSD

[pinit count=”horizontal”]

Behold; I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. ( Isaiah 43:19, emphasis mine)

Today is the first day of the New Year. Will this be the year you go after those God-sized Dreams God has placed within you?

A Letter To My Fellow Dreamers

December 6, 2013 By Alecia Simersky 4 Comments

Bridge-alecia simersky

Dear Friends,

I know sometimes the road you have chosen seems hard and pointless. There are obstacles; some you knew would come and others that have been quite unexpected. The doubts and fears they never go away I’m afraid, instead they get louder. Don’t worry though, this means you are on the right track and a breakthrough is right around the corner, if you just hang in there.

People won’t always support you like you hoped they would, they think that you could be doing something better with your time. But don’t let their words stop you. Think on them if you must (to see if there is any truth to them), for a moment, but not a minute longer. Satan could be using them to hinder you. And you can’t let that happen. You must never stop moving forward. This dream? It’s yours not theirs, that is why they do not understand what you are doing.

It’s not selfish to dream and it’s not a lack of faith to plan and take steps. God can’t do anything with you if you are being still. Let your heart be still and pray for His wisdom. You don’t have to strive to make it all happen on your own. God will bring people in your life to love on you and encourage you when you think you can’t take another step.

He brought us together ‘for such a time as this’ every day perfectly planned and already written down. He sees you; He is El Roi, after all, the God that sees.  And He knows your every tendency. There is nothing that will happen now or down the road that will surprise Him. He has either allowed it or planned for it.

The world needs your ideas and words, and creative one of a kind perspective. Please don’t allow the world to change who you are in an effort to conform you to its ways. You are better than that. Following after your God given dream is the only way to be true to you. It’s the only way to have peace with who you are.

I know you can do this, I believe in you!

So go, go after those dreams that won’t leave you alone. Follow hard after them. And one day, when your time on this earth is finished, you will get the honor of being before your Father and hear Him say “Well done, my faithful servant”(Matthew 25:21) and you will be in awe of what the two you accomplished all because you decided to trust and have faith.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.  For,

“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
and will not delay.”

But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.”

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. (Hebrews 10:35-39, emphasis mine)

Sincerely,
Your Dream Sister-Alecia
