On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome Stacy Jeffries to God-sized Dreams. She shares how God is stretching her as she steps out in her God-sized Dreams and dares to chase her “lion”. Thanks for being here today, Stacy!
“You can run away from what you are afraid of, but you’ll be running the rest of your life. It’s time to face your fears, take a flying leap of faith, and chase the lion.”
“You are one idea, one risk, one decision away from a totally different life.” Chase the Lion: If Your Dream Doesn’t Scare You, It’s Too Small, by Mark Batterson.
On June 11, 2016 I attended my church’s prayer night where my pastor asked, “What is the biggest, boldest prayer that you can pray tonight?” I realized I was one prayer away from a totally different life.
For the 40 days and nights before, I had been searching for a new job after learning that my position would be eliminated. I fasted, prayed, and applied for numerous positions. Full-time and part-time jobs in my field and even jobs out of left field, but every single door closed. I knew that I was employable, so I wondered why I couldn’t get one yes. I later realized that God was waiting for my one yes.
Two years ago God planted a seed in my heart that maybe I could take something I loved doing and turn it into a business. Twice I made small efforts but walked away not long after I started. Like Moses, God asked what was in my hands, and I saw only my own feeble strength. Instead of seeing my gift with eyes of faith, I counted it as not good enough. Comparison robbed me, because I probably couldn’t do it as well as “they” did it.
God invited me on an adventure, but my fear answered the door saying, “No, thank you.”
One year later, I assumed God’s invitations would stop, but I was wrong. There were months when I tried not to think about it at all, but I could think of nothing else. It felt as if the dream was chasing me down. While the desire remained, I was so over-committed that I had no time or energy left, so I put my dream back on the shelf. I promised God I would focus on it…one day.
On June 11, 2016, my one day came.
I felt courageous that night so I told God that I would stop letting fear dictate my life. At first I pushed aside the thought of starting a business. Surely now isn’t the right time since I don’t have a guaranteed income. God reminded me that endings are just opportunities for new beginnings, and He is always Jehovah Jireh My Provider. I promised God that whether or not He provided me with a full-time job (or any job) I would pursue this dream and use my talents well. I prayed my biggest, boldest prayer, then went home feeling a bit unsure.
The next morning the shift was palpable. God answered my prayer of surrender with a new confidence in Him. I felt ready to chase the lion and pursue my God-Sized Dream with everything I had. I began to speak life over my dream in a new way, even sharing it with those around me. 2016 is my BOLD year, and saying YES to adventure with God has been the best yes of my life. I’ve had moments where fear and doubt try to resurface, but I lean into God’s word and focus on His promises. God sends encouragement at just the right time to remind me that I’m on the right track.
One of the best gifts of this season is seeing how my courage to step out in faith encourages others around me to do the same. Ultimately, that’s what God-Sized Dreams are all about: allowing God to use us to touch the lives of others, which is the best adventure of them all. I pray that whatever your God-Sized Dream is that you will give God your best yes and pursue it with all of your heart. You’ll be glad that you did.
