On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome Tiffany Parry back to God-sized Dreams. She shares about how God can use a stubborn heart for His glory and in His time. Thanks for being here today, Tiffany!
I don’t consider myself a stubborn person. While I’ve been known to give in to procrastination from time to time, I’m generally a “go-get-em’ girl.” First time, every time. Listen. Obey. Measure out those actions for the most beneficial reaction. And when my results look a whole lot like my intentions, I could not be more pleased.
But these dreams—the end is still far off. I can’t see what’s up ahead and rather than measuring my own steps, God is asking me to trust Him to lead them.
And my heart is stomping its feet. Fists clenched its throwing a tantrum. Between its beats are messages that shout “where?”, “how come?”, and “when?”
“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out.”
Jeremiah 17:9 (MSG)
He’s told me time and again that the process is mine, but the results are His. He’s said His plans are exceedingly abundantly better; they are written over my life for good. He’s promised that I’ll walk forward in them. His word is ever before my eyes.
But my heart keeps trying to pick up the pace and carry His end of this deal. (<====Tweet this.)
“But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
Jeremiah 17:10 (MSG)
He sees. He knows. No pretense is required with the God who understands the very depths of our heart and the dreams that reside there. Even those untouched by our words.
What is it in us that is always looking beyond? Is it longing, restlessness, the possibility of what is to come that drives us to pursue it ourselves rather than allow God to bring it in proper time—His perfect time?
It’s funny … being that I’ve long pursued perfection, even when God offers to bring it, I think I can do it better myself.
He reminds us over and over again—you keep moving, I’m still working.
He cuts to root of the matter. He speaks truth into our lives with divine timing. He breathes grace upon abundant grace over us and writes His promises across our lives to settle our restless hearts, to calm our craving for more.
He knows we’re hungry, starving for these dreams to blossom into reality. And from the beginning, He sees the end—that in time, we will be filled to overflowing.
“But blessed is the man who trusts Me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 MSG
Paradise is coming. Our fruit is already planted.
While we wait for it to blossom, we trust. (<====Tweet this.) Dig deep, sink in. Don’t worry about what shape it will take. Don’t fear time or failure. Simply believe that when it comes forth, it will look exactly like it’s supposed to.
Oh, dreamer—I know the longing for just a taste of that fruit. How the temptation for a bite just wraps itself around your heart. It’s Eden all over, right?
God knows a bit about enduring temptation. He’s also acutely aware of expectation—catching a glimpse of what is up ahead and wondering if you have the courage to bear that cross. He endured it so that we could be His.
Jesus bore His cross so that our dreams and wildest hopes could be written by His powerful hand. He is authoring our life with wisdom, knowledge, and a perfection that we will never be able to achieve. Never.
Let’s quiet our stubborn hearts and believe. No more picking up His end. Let’s take God at His word, do the work He’s given us, and know that He is fully able and completely willing to bless us with the fruitful results.
