On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome Karen Sweeney-Ryall to God-sized Dreams. She shares the reminder that struggles and times of hopelessness are often what lead us to pursuing our dreams. Thanks for being here today, Karen!
I journaled as a teen, wrote for the high school and college newspaper and published some online magazine articles. Following a traumatic incident in my life a dozen years ago, I outlined and penned some of a book but never completed it.
Three years ago I went through a very difficult season of my life. Rather than one large problem, it felt like wave after wave of various struggles, losses, disappointments and stressful situations. It was discouraging, exhausting, and hard to keep positive and believe there was a way out. I questioned God and found hope fading into oblivion. I felt battered and struggled to believe there was something good ahead.
I was drowning in despair and lack of vision and hope for the future. But after talking with some dear friends, getting prayer, and making the decision to choose to believe God did have a plan for good in my future, hope began to rise again.
I envision it as though hope was a fire burning in my heart, that dimmed almost to a point of extinction; then built again into flames of hope, believing and dreaming again.
Once I chose to hope and believe in good things to come, that hope swelled to believing that my next years will be my best years! As the vision grew in my heart, I realized that I had a message of hope and resurrecting your dream that needed to be shared. And so my dream of writing a book resurfaced. My message of hope to encourage other women coming through a difficult season in their life grew so strong and clear.
I started a new blog, Becoming My Best Me, and began the arduous task of learning WordPress. For the second time, I came across the information for Proverbs 31 conference, She Speaks, and felt impressed that I should attend. Money was an issue but my church paid the registration for me with the encouragement, “We are blessed to invest in you.” I have spent the past year writing my book, attending webinars and reading books about publishing, and interviewing women for testimonies in my book.
I have been blessed by the encouragement of many friends and family. But what propels me is the constant burning dream in my heart and the vision I have of helping other women to press in and find their own God-given identity, calling and dream to pursue. My book is nearly completed, and I am also developing a workbook to lead women through their own process in workshops.
I hope that my journey of comeback from a low point of despair and hopelessness to reviving and pursuing my dream will inspire you to revive your dreams, too.
It is never too late.
You are never too old.
Regardless of age, health, wealth or circumstances, we all have a calling from God to make a difference in this world, in big and small ways.
Choose to hope, believe, and follow yours!
