On Wednesdays we are thrilled to fling open the doors to all of YOU! We love hearing your dreaming stories…the lessons you’ve learned, the roads you’ve walked, the dreams He’s planted in your hearts! Today we are excited to welcome back April Ayers to God-sized Dreams. She is sharing a little update on how God has moved in her life recently. Thanks for being here again, April!
I couldn’t help but listen to the voice inside me urging me to share my story on this side of “The Dream”.
I have posted a few other times, sharing my struggles in the midst of a dream that had been planted in my heart about four years ago. A dream that I was uncertain if it was my own or one that had been breathed into me by my Heavenly Father for His own purposes.
Nonetheless, the dream began after my marriage was restored, and it became a quest that I was almost unable to let go of if I had tried!
My husband and I fervently prayed for a move to a new place. Not just any place though, as this desire of my heart was very specific. A love of nature and the beauty of our Creator’s masterpieces have warmed my heart since I was a child.
I grew up in Colorado, and many of my childhood memories are of carefree days playing outdoors. The smell of rain and fresh, fall leaves. The cold of winter snow that made my fingers and hands feel like pins and needles as my mom tried to warm them under running water. Picnics in the mountains. Bike rides and days at the park.
The list of memories goes on and on.
Fast forward through twenty years of living in the deserts of Arizona. A husband and four children later. All immediate family living nearby, but there was this nagging dream that threatened to move us from everything we had ever known. A dream to move back to the places of my childhood memories. A life where our children could play outdoors, exploring the same nature I have always adored.
I had grown to feel like a stranger in the place we called home–like we were supposed to be somewhere different, and I just couldn’t understand why.
Well, I am elated to share with all of those still praying for their dreams, that the Lord truly is a Father who cares for the desires of His children’s hearts!!
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
He opened doors that could not be shut and even moved mountains, it seemed, to send us on this journey to the other side. He even had a sense of humor when He moved us to a place called Denver that isn’t even in the state of Colorado!
He has not only answered our many prayers but has far surpassed them with a place and a life that is greater than we could have imagined.
My senses are overwhelmed with the colors and smells of the seasons, and my husband and I have felt “home” since we got here. Most things good in this life come with a sacrifice, and for us this has been less time spent with family, who are now thousands of miles away. But the peace we feel in our hearts has assured us that this is where our Heavenly Father has called us to be right now.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
I pray that my story can offer hope to someone who is still in the throes of the battle for their Dream.
I know how hard the days can be when they threaten to consume you in the hopelessness of where you are. But God promises, time and time again in His Word, that He has a plan for His children, and He cares for us!
Don’t give up! Fight the battle hard and believe that one day you, too, will be on the other side!
