Have you ever done a Bible study and laughed at God? (<====Tweet this.)
Yep, that happened to me too.
I was doing Henry Blackaby’s Bible Study, Experiencing God. One night the question was what does God want you to do right now? Right now? I heard, “Sing My love song.” And promptly burst out laughing!
“Well, God, You will have to send me a bucket, because I can’t carry a tune…and You know it!”
Have you noticed how persistent God is when He is working to get your attention? I did, when deep in my spirit I heard a whispered question followed by a command, “What’s in your hand? Use it.”
In my hand? I was writing in the workbook, so a pen was in my hand.
I swept the workbook aside, pulled out a new journal and put pen to paper…and out flowed the answer to the question. At 5:30 am, I laid the pen down and headed to bed. Done. Thank God. Took a bit more than the two lines provided in the workbook…
SheSpeaks 2013 Speakers and Writers Conference. WRITERS Conference? That was the FIRST email I saw later that afternoon. Seriously God? You want me to DO something with this? OK.
And the story began.
I am Susan B Mead, a woman who spent 20+ years in corporate America with Johnson & Johnson only to realize that things get broken, discarded and replaced, yet people matter. And I HAD to create time for the people who mattered to me most.
In 2004, I lost my sister, Bette, a brilliant PhD nurse, to suicide.
In 2008, I lost my 20-year-old college-aged son, Kyle, on the last night of spring break to drugs and alcohol.
And in 2013, I found myself in the grandstands at the Boston Marathon cheering for my cousin, Amby, as he ran the 45th anniversary of winning the race in 1968 only to have the first bomb explode directly across the street from me five minutes before he was on pace to cross the finish line.
I have experienced my share of grief, however, what I have learned is that God shines the brightest light in our darkest moments and shows up when we need Him most. He graciously took my hand and began the slow dance from deep, dark grief to a place of grace. Was the journey perfect? No, yet it is in the journey of healing that joy is found.
How can that be?
God is so very good…
God caressed my broken heart when I heard that my sister had bought a gun and committed the unthinkable. “I’ve got her, she’s MINE,” I heard OUT LOUD and the peace that is indescribable enveloped me. Thank You, God, for telling me Your truth about where Bette is. You cannot and do not lie. And I would have believed the world…
Do you know anyone who has committed the unthinkable? I find it so hard to say suicide. That word simply HURTS to think about, type or say. Yet tragically, it occurs far too often. Your friend or family member may need to know what God shared with me…for HOPE for their loved one who lost their way so tragically.
I have learned one thing in this journey. Who am I to tell God what He can or cannot do?
I simply thank God for sharing His truth with me. So I can sing His love song…for you and for me. And I pray you are blessed in your journey. I chose to Dance With Jesus.
Reach out. Jesus will take your hand and pull you closer as you take the first step of this new dance with Him. (<====Tweet this.)
I did. Dance With Jesus: From Grief to Grace, published March 31, 2015 by Morgan James Faith, was the answer to what does God want you to do right now. Seems the answer was “just a bit longer” than the two lines provided in the Experiencing God workbook.
Who knew? Write a BOOK. That was what God wanted me to do “right now.”
What does He want you to do right now?
